Sonyia Woolnough BA (Hons) Law
Having graduated in law from Durham University (what a beautiful city to study in) I then studied at Chester College of Law (another lovely place).
I joined Bevirs in 1982 becoming a partner in 1989. Originally I specialised in litigation carrying out private prosecutions, residential landlord and tenant disputes, personal injury and other civil disputes.
I have spent the last 17 years specialising in commercial property and commercial work.
I am a member of our management team and I’m also the firms Compliance Officer for Legal Practice.
As I am heavily involved in the running of our business I have found it really interesting and rewarding to help businesses with their property acquisitions and disposals and I always work hard to understand where the property transaction fits in with the overall business venture.
Business sales and Purchases are a particular interest as they involve a lot of other factors outside the legal issues, which involves a professional team of lawyer accountant and surveyor working together with the client to get the best outcome.
For almost 20 years Bevirs have had a specialism in SIPP and SSAS property pension work, which means we carry out property work nationwide. I personally carry out a lot of this work, which provides another interesting dimension to commercial property.
As a firm we do like to encourage trainees to develop to their full potential indeed three of the current partners all trained here and we are very keen to continue with that program and I hope that I see some new lawyers coming through to join the commercial department.
Away from work I have always enjoyed sport. I won the British Junior Judo Championships for my weight category in 1974!! I have completed a Triathlon, a duathlon and several half marathons but a knee injury now means that cycling is the sport for me, as I cannot run any more. Luckily my husband and daughter enjoy sport too!
